Unit 9 final project blog

Final project

I believe it is vital that a health and wellness professional develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically. I believe in the old saying that Dacher mentioned in his book we can’t lead a person anywhere we haven’t been ourselves. As health and wellness professionals it is our mandate to continually improve for our benefit and the benefit of our clients, we set and example for our clients to follow, we are the evidence that this stuff really works. We also have to remember if we are good teachers than our clients are going to grow, so this means we have to continue to grow in order to keep leading the clients.

I do my best to live by example and continue to improve, not just for my benefit but for the benefit of my clients. People love to see someone that is passionate about their profession; this gives them the confidence that I am going to do what ever it takes to get the job done. I do great with my diet and exercise; however I need to work more on my psychological and spiritual part.

Assessment

I have done a small assessment in each domain but for me I believe in consistent improvement in every domain, it doesn’t matter what the score is.

However if I was to score each domain on a scale from 1-10 I would score spirituality 6,

Physical 10, and psychological 5.5.

Goal development

The goal I have for myself physically is to become healthier and gain more muscle, I love to compete in natural bodybuilding shows. I am 43 and I compete with guys half my age, so my main goal is to keep up with these young men, as long as I can do that I know I am doing well.

Psychologically I want to master meditation, I am good in some areas of meditation but I want to master all of them not just one or two. The main reason I want to master meditation is because it is closely tied to spirituality, unless I can control or get rid of all the negative images in my mind I will be limited spiritually.

I am a devout follower of Jesus Christ (not just a church goer) most of my clients are Christians, so I believe as the bible says the laying on of hands, praying for the sick and they will be healed. I have seen God do some amazing things over the years that really built my faith up to were it is now. So my main goal spiritual is to do what the disciples done in that day, so my goal is to develop my relationship with God more and more every day.

Practices for personal health

The strategies I can implement to foster the physical domain of myself is as I just mentioned earlier, competing in bodybuilding shows, this keeps me motivated to continually improve. Also trying to keep up with the younger guys keeps me motivated in improving myself, we all need a goal to shoot for, a reason to do something.

Psychologically I plan on incorporating more meditation in my every day life. I plan on meditation twice a day, when I first wake up and when I lay down. I believe doing this will help me focus on the things I have to do and at the same time it helps me clear my mind from all the clutter from the day.

Spiritually Likewise in the morning when I first rise and in the evening when I lay down, I also mentioned earlier that psychological and spiritual are closely linked, So in the morning I will meditate to get my mind in line, then I will go into prayer and so on. I believe being consistent with this practice will implement foster to all three dimintions and bring me to a whole new level as a spirit being.

Commitment

I think it is much easier for me to be committed than for some others because I have clients that watch every move I make, so they tend to keep me in check. It is a good idea to tell someone what my goals are so they can hold me accountable to my plans. I believe if I practicing this consistently when I assess myself in six months I will have made significant improvements.

  1. I liked your committment to accountability. That is a very good tool if it workds for you. Some people respond very well to accountability and it also helps one to feel that others care enough to expect their best from them and hold them to their word. It also allows us to be human with others and engage them. They can see us stumble and help us up and on our way again and this can be done for them in return. I also plan on putting meditation at the top of my list. I want to do this daily and make this a strong priority and something to look forward to. I noticed that when I practiced, my meditation improved. I can relate to you commitment to God. God is my best friend and I talk daily with God. This is my rock and my foundation. Spiritually, I am very strong through prayer and my relationship with God. I really enjoyed your body building comment. Wow. That is different and I liked that. I like that you are keeping up with your body - this area I need to improve and become consistent in. Back in the day...I was very in shape but as I aged, I lost sight of this. I am still in fair shape but I would love to have the mind - body - spirit connection back again like when I was younger. I think if I work on my inward and personal domains, this will bring that part of me back into balance for the long term this time. I liked you direction and your enthusiam. I really like you competitive spirit. I wish you well and thanks for sharing.

  2. Great job! It is definitely a benefit for you that you have clients that watch what you do and try and learn from you. This will help you in the long haul to remember why you started on this life journey. It is great that you have been maintaining the physical portion of wellness that is just one step closer to reaching your ultimate goal. I think that spiritually you are a step above many others because you have that firm foundation with God and the fact that you are going to continue building upon that says volumes. Meditating twice a day is a great idea, you will be able to start your day with a clear focused mind and then at the end of the day you will be able to release all of the negativity that you might have faced. Good luck!!

  3. Hello Norris,Nicely written post. Each week that I read the blog spot; I find that just about everyone is having difficulty in the areas of psychological and spirituality. As a devout follower of Christ and the people you are around each day, I don't believe that you will be lacking in those areas for long. Take what you have learned throughout this course and use it and things will soon fall into place. You're correct in saying that if you verbalize your goals to people they will hold you accountable and I think that's a good thing, so you definitely have to set the example in you case. A relationship with God is the most important thing in my life also and like you I thank the Lord morning, noon and night because without Him I am nothing. I have also seen the power of prayer work not only in the lives of others but in my own personal live as well as family members. May God bless and keep up, continue to do well as you travel the road towards optimal health.
