Unit blog

Unit 8 blog

Sorry my blog is so late but I lost power for three days thanks to hurricane “Irene”. I think all the meditation exercises are as equally important and beneficial, but if I had to pick a meditation exercise that would be most beneficial to my profession as a personal trainer it would be love and kindness.

Most of my clients are over weight or obese and they have very low self esteem, so I have to show love (genuine love) so they don’t feel that I am looking down on them. Most people think that physical fitness is all physical, its not, it is mostly mental, one important part of my job is building up self esteem in my clients. This gives them the ability to step up the challenge and overcome, this mind set also overflows to all areas of life.

  1. Hello Norris, I commend you on a fantastic job. I would have to agree that all the meditation exercises were equally beneficial. I couldn't focus on the exercises until the last 2 but I will definitely try again. I understand why you chose Loving-Kindness especially being a personal trainer. I supervised a diet clinic and my clients often felt the same way. When I heard a client speaking of quitting a very effective program, I made those individuals my own. They would ask me why and what did I know because I am small framed. I hung a picture of me on the wall of my office just to see how many would recognize that it was me. Some asked was that me and others didn't because at the time I was 75lbs heavier. I showed them that it could be done through determination and then the attitudes changes, they actually started requesting to be seen by me. One client told me that no one ever cared about her weight enough to challenge her. I challenged, practiced what I preached and they reversed the role and showed me Loving-Kindness; because I truly understood.
